Well, as we're on a roll with the blogging let's just keep it going...
So today started with breakfast without our third team member...Nicola was unwell and stayed in bed. So that left Natalie and I (along with the other workers) to organise the deliveries for the day. I came across some of the bags sorted by family from home.
These were collected by a pastor from the local town who has connections with an orphanage further up north. So the clothes will go to the orphanage in the coming days.
After his load had been collected we began our delivery service. The first stop was an old people's home. The house sleeps 46 older people who are aged over 50. There are 17 workers and two volunteers. All of the residents have learning difficulties or disabilities.
We were able to bring them blankets, raised toilet seats, shower chairs, zimmer frames, 3 wheeled frames, crutches and commodes. The director showed us around and it was a lovely half hour to spend with some of the residents.
After we headed to the hospital as supplies were sent out on the container. Whilst we were there someone arrived by ambulance and they used the rope lift to take them to the first floor. This was totally grand as it wasn't an emergency situation but it would be such an inconvenience if you were in a rush!
The third stop was Veritas, an organisation which works with a wide range of age groups from babies to elderly. Some of the ministries include an after schools club, kindergarden, elderly clubs, exercise classes, learning disabilities and teenage clubs. We were able to see round the various buildings and rooms. It is staffed by Romanians and volunteers.
On the way to drop off a wheelchair for a family we stopped in at the Romanian Orthodox church. It is such a magnificent building.
The services are conducted with the people standing and seats are around the edges for those who are unable to stand. A large population of Romanians would attend the local Orthodox church on Sundays out of tradition. There is an Orthodox church in every village in Romania.
Then this afternoon we tidied up the store a little and began to organise the food for the Easter food parcels. And that brought us to teatime! So it was all non stop but a really good day.
Napte Buna
