The journey to Romania has started with the first leg to
London this morning. I’m now waiting of the other seven to land from Belfast.
My trip was entirely uneventful in my eyes however I was amused by some of the
other passengers’ thoughts and feelings on how their trip was panning out. I
overheard little bits and pieces throughout the day and decided that most of us
can relate to at least one (some to all) of the following…
Travellers today had the fear that:
They wouldn’t make the bus to the airport on
time
·
They didn’t have the right change for the bus
·
Their lift wouldn’t show up
·
They were going to miss their flight because the
bus had taken a detour/ Had been held up by road works/ Was stopping at every
possible layby on route to the airport
·
They could not navigate the airport (Despite the
massive signposts)
·
The airport security had moved and they cannot
actually find it
·
The queue is too long and they wouldn’t make
their flight
·
Airport security is modernised and they do not
know how to proceed (Irrespective of the fact that a person has been employed
who has the sole responsibility of asking you to step forward and place
everything in a tray-it isn’t that hard)
·
They had left toiletries in their suitcase not
in their clear plastic bag
·
They would get a scarf caught in the automatic
‘tray rolling’ system
·
The wouldn’t be reunited with their belongings
at the other side
·
They would have to go through the new scanning
machine
·
They wouldn’t get to their gate in time due to
the length of time it takes to walk there
·
Their gate would change
·
Their luggage would be too big if they were
asked to put it into the measured holder
·
They wouldn’t be able to have their hand luggage
stored near them on the flight after an announcement was made that space was
going to be tight
·
They wouldn’t have time to drink their tea
before landing was announced and tray tables had to be stowed (To be fair…the
lady said ‘put away’ but I just thought I’d use the technical term)
·
Their ears would be sore
·
The air conditioning would be too cold (I didn’t
like to mention you can turn it off)
·
They would miss their connecting flight
·
They didn’t have transport arranged for the
other side
These are all the ones I can remember from the 90 minutes in
Edinburgh Airport and 2 hours in Luton Airport. I should add…no one was
actually complaining…most of them were just older people passing comment on
everything around them. Not to sound ageist. But they did do it quite a lot. It
gave me insight into why some people may actually panic a little when it comes
to travelling!
I’ll finish with my all-time favourite from an old Scottish
lady travelling with her friend to London:
“You know hen, it’s an awful lot of faff to go anywhere,
it’s often just easier to stay at home.” I first of all had to hold back the
laughter due to the fact that a lady definitely 65+ is familiar with the term ‘faff’
but secondly just enjoyed her friends response, “You didnae have tae come” in a
strong Glaswegian accent!
