Monday 1st December is a National Holiday for the country of Romania. This brings with it a lot of celebrations and public holidays. The mayor of Seleus wanted to do his part for the people of the village. He offered to provide food for them if Project Romania would assist in the distribution. So we set off in the morning to help with the program. There were mixed feelings over the whole situation. Yes, he was giving food. But he didn't want to organise it, provide the dishes/spoons or be there for the program. Anyhow...we arrived. Chaos. We set up the usual way and explained that the food was for the entire family and the children needed to return with their parents. This helped calm things down. We previously had distributed tickets amongst the houses and each family was to come with their ticket and they would receive food. Simple. In theory.
We try to keep a record of everything the people receive and so each house number was called out and marked down. Some of the children will attempt to receive multiple portions so keeping note is key. It also lets us put faces to names and families to house numbers. As well as just generally providing a little organisation.
The mayor had been told that there were 500 living up on the hill and he did not believe it. Unfortunately this meant the ladies serving ran out of food...they left to go and get some they had made earlier. This was all a little non convincing but we let them set off. 45 minutes late they came back with more for those who had patiently waited in line! We had the time to play with the children which was epic banter! Love it when there's time to just play games.
Duck, duck, goose!
There was also time to install a long drop in the middle of the whole process!
We also found the Romanian John Wayne!
We distributed 61 sets in the afternoon. Each one heard that Jesus loved them and were wished a Happy Christmas!
And still the work was not done! We came home, had dinner and then began phase three of the day! We sorted teabags, sweets and rice into bags for the food parcels. Then we made up 220 food parcels for the next day. A food parcel includes rice, flour, pasta, oats, stock cubes, tea bags, beans/spaghetti and sweets. So after bag 220 was completed I headed straight to bed!
And that was a busy day! The rest of the week is going to be of a similar pace. Prayer for energy and efficiency would be much appreciated.
